Intellectual disability affects a person's ability to learn, reason and adapt to daily life. It is characterised by significant limitations in both intellectual functioning (IQ below 70-75) and adaptive behaviour. Support needs vary significantly from person to person — some people need minimal support with specific tasks while others require more intensive assistance across many areas of life.
What the NDIS funds
Intellectual disability is one of the primary disability groups supported by the NDIS. Funding can cover daily living support, skill development, community participation, supported employment and therapy. Both children and adults with intellectual disability can access NDIS funding.
